My parents, granddad and I decided to go to the local waterfront to watch fireworks this year. It was great fun, tons of people, tons of food, tons of cute little shops. But just after we got there the crowds began to change. From family oriented parents with children it became the multi-ethnic hangout for everyone in high school. As my mom and I were walking back to where we had left the guys, a fight broke out right next to us. And in true high school fashion everyone rushed in to see what was going on, practically trapping my mom and I who were trying rush out in the other direction.

Reading about the incident in the paper the next day, the flight bloomed to include about 120 people with almost 1000 spectators. Whoa, we got out of there just in time.

By the time the fireworks started we were all back together, sitting on a little grassy hill feeling pretty proud of ourselves for choosing such an ideal spot. People and families had crowded in next to us, behind us and in front of us. It was packed. Halfway through the show there was a little lull in the fireworks... it was too early for them to be over, right? Then I heard someone scream and small mass of people in front of me jumped up. The screams carried up the hill like a wave and by the time it reached me I jumped up too, dragging all the blankets with me.

"Sprinklers!"

In no time flat, the crowded mass of humanity on the hillside evacuated brining their chairs, blankets, children, coolers and dogs along with them. I haven't ever seen so many people move so fast! We all milled around in the road feeling a little homeless as the firework show continued. It was almost as much fun to watch unsuspecting people walking across the grass getting blasted by the sprinklers as it was actually watching the fireworks!
