Arrived!

Yes, I'm here in the great country of Switzerland... but strangely enough it looks very much like Oregon. It's green and it's raining... the kind of dull, drizzling rain that the western Northwest gets all stinking winter. The guy who picked me up from the airport kept pointing off into the white foggy clouds saying, "And that's where a whole huge mountain range is" and "just over there is Lake Geneva and more mountains, and over there are beautiful rolling agricultural fields.... Only you can't see it. It's beautiful.... Just imagine it's there.... What a shame you can't see it...."

I arrived at YWAM's Burtigny base just after 11:30 am. After a quick tour and lunch I already feel right at home. It's strange how YWAM bases are different and yet the same. Some core value is translated from base to base, varying slightly because of people and circumstances, but remaining intrinsically in tact. One thing that I love about YWAM is, as far as I've experienced, people genuinely want to make you feel welcomed and cared for even if they've never met you and will never meet you again. That shows character.

I spent the earlier part of this afternoon chatting with a few of the Korean and Japanese students that are here. We had a blast discussing various aspects of the two cultures and making fun of them. These new friends of mine have helped keep me awake through a tough few jet-laggy hours. But I have five more hours to go before I can finally go to bed.

Sleeeeep..... In the past 48 hours the only sleep I've had has been on a plane. And I, unlike my befamed brother Ryan, cannot sleep like a narcoleptic on planes. I barely sleep at all usually. Yes, I said usually because this time I was able to pass out more readily than most. I guess it really does help to not get any sleep the night before a trip.
