I've always felt fairy secure on the 18th floor of my huge concrete apartment building because Korea doesn't experience earthquakes, or so I thought.
South Korea feels strongest earthquake in 26 years
SEOUL, May 29 (Reuters) - South Korea was hit by an earthquake on Saturday, but no damage was reported, the country's meteorological agency said.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said the quake, which struck South Korea's east coast, was the strongest to hit the country in 26 years.
"An earthquake measured 5.2 by the Richter scale has taken place at 7:14 p.m. (1014 GMT)," an official at the Administration said.
"The tremor was felt nationwide but there has been no report of damage," she said.
Unlike its neighbour Japan, one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries, South Korea has had few quakes strong enough to be noticed without the aid of scientific instruments.
Well, as long as they only hit every 26 years and as long as they stay as puny as a 5.2. Japan was hit with a 6.6 early this morning... I wonder if my parents felt it. If you want to look at information about this earthquake as well as others check out the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program. As a science teacher I can't help but find their site intriguing.
