I've been reading a lot of JRR Tolkien and I think he's affecting me. Images of grand scenery, wars, kings and cities are floating around in my head. Sentences like, "Fair friends, I wander the world as on the wings of birds, but fear not, I do not forget the sweetness of the times we shared," come unbidden out of my mouth. Here's a small look at what my blog would look like if I were Tolkien.
Part I
Across the Western Sea
Rodo had been dozing for hours, not really sleeping, not really awake. Her mind, in its sleepless state wandered on trailing paths through thoughts and imaginings. There was much she was leaving behind in this journey, for the land of the Orient, with it's strange comforts and familiar streets was home. Ah, but to taste once more the pleasing bitterness of green tea, steaming hot! It was too much to hope for, she couldn't turn back. The Quest, the inevitable flow of events begun with her discovery of the Cheap Standby Tickets, drove her ever onward. There would be no rest. Fate, it seems, had deemed it so.
The journey, yet in its beginning, already seemed endless. The hours yet to pass were as long as the hours left behind. She managed to make herself comfortable in the very last seat of the airplane, her legs propped up on her backpack and her head leaning on a small pillow. She had stayed like that for hours, willing time to pass quickly. And, unusually, it did.
Hours later Rodo woke from her doze to find the sky outside brightening, the clouds below were warm with colors and swirled into patterns that richly reflected the yet unseen sunlight. It was an hour till the giant airplane landed in the western country. The next hour passed slower than the last three together. Through gaps in the clouds, Rodo saw a range of snow covered mountains, their peaks jutting up like ominous white claws trying to rip the blue out of the sky....
I'll stop there. If I continued my blog like a Tolkien saga it would never end and probably never be read. Normal life just isn't interesting enough to recount it moment by moment- unless you're having an adventure.
